NURSERY

Building Confident Learners Through Play, Inquiry, and Care

At Combi Plaza International Pre-School, we believe that the Nursery years are the beginning of a remarkable learning journey. Between the ages of three and four, children are naturally curious, eager to explore, and excited to discover the world around them. Every question they ask, every object they investigate, and every friendship they build becomes an opportunity for meaningful learning.

Our Nursery program combines the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), Inquiry-Based Learning, and three important Japanese education pillars—Dietary Education, Morale Education, and Environmental Education. Together, these approaches create a nurturing environment where children develop not only academically but also socially, emotionally, physically, and morally.

We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, respected, and encouraged. Rather than expecting every child to learn in the same way or at the same pace, we recognise each child's unique strengths and interests. Our teachers carefully observe, guide, and support children as they build confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning.

Learning Through Curiosity and Inquiry

Young children are natural investigators. They learn by touching, asking questions, experimenting, pretending, and talking about their experiences. In our Nursery classrooms, learning begins with children's curiosity.

Using an inquiry-based approach, teachers encourage children to wonder, explore, create, and reflect. Instead of simply providing answers, teachers create opportunities for children to investigate and discover for themselves.

For example, while exploring the theme of "Growing Things," children may plant seeds, water them daily, observe changes, measure plant growth using simple language, draw what they see, and discuss why plants need sunlight and water. During a transportation theme, children may build roads using blocks, compare different vehicles, role-play community helpers, and investigate how vehicles move.

Through these meaningful experiences, children develop language, observation, problem-solving, creativity, and confidence while learning naturally through play.

The IEYC Curriculum: Supporting Every Area of Development

The IEYC curriculum provides a balanced and developmentally appropriate framework designed specifically for young children. At Combi Plaza International Pre-School, we use this curriculum to ensure that every child develops across all areas of learning.

Communication and Language

Children are immersed in an environment rich with conversation, storytelling, songs, rhymes, picture books, and role-play. Teachers encourage children to express their ideas, listen to others, ask questions, and develop an expanding vocabulary.

Language is developed naturally through everyday conversations, dramatic play, group discussions, and interactive story sessions.

Early Mathematical Thinking

Mathematics is introduced through practical experiences rather than formal instruction. Children sort objects, count during daily routines, identify patterns, compare sizes, explore shapes, and solve simple problems during play.

Whether building towers, setting the table for snack time, or organising classroom materials, children begin to understand mathematical concepts in meaningful ways.

Physical Development

Physical development is an essential part of every Nursery day. Children strengthen both gross motor and fine motor skills through outdoor play, climbing, balancing, running, dancing, painting, threading, cutting, and building activities.

These experiences help children develop coordination, confidence, body awareness, and independence.

Social and Emotional Development

Learning how to share, cooperate, take turns, and express feelings is just as important as learning numbers and letters.

Teachers guide children in developing friendships, managing emotions, resolving simple conflicts, and building positive relationships. Every child is encouraged to feel valued, respected, and included within the classroom community.
